Wituksítat rakuuturiísaata .
There was a village a big camp .
Ruurii’ahucíksa cahiksícahiks i’ahiciiraáhisa
That is how they used to be Indians our being there

They did not just go around , but there were various villages this tribe .

Aáka   tihaáahaaku piíta .
Oh , here he lived a man .
Witiisá’a Riitáhkac Rariisaáru .
He was named Eagle Chief .
Tiraahku Riitáhkac Rariisaáru hi aharúhku cápaat .
This Eagle Chief and he had a woman .
Raariwiícu’ kuuhattakúksa cuúraki   cirú cuúraki rakú’u .
Just now he got married to her a young girl , yet a young girl to be .
Uu   witikuskítawi’ .
Oh , she was beautiful .
Iraáku cuúraki ruutiiriítat ikituú’u aharariíwaa’at riisaáru’
This girl this village all they were looking at her the chief
irarúhku cápaat .
that of his woman .
Hi tíraaku cápaat witaahwáku’ iriirahkuwícka’a rakuúta
And this woman she would say whatever she wanted to be ,
kítuu’u’ cápaat wititiiracákipu hi riitaruuhaawí’uu’a
all the women they all would gather and they would incline her way
iriiraáhkuwaaka hi   Círu titatuuhaákarista     tiraraahuúriki
what she said and ' Yet we are going to do this , " these ways
ahikstaarahkawaakaruukusuku a ahicikstaáwuusuku rákis a
when they used to plant gardens and when they used to go after wood and
ahicikstaáwariihusuku tiratawaawiiruutiku riwáharit a kísuc .
when they went after things these that grow on (trees) plums and grapes .

Ráwa tíraaku piíta witaruuraapírihuu’ tíraaku cápaat .
Now this man he loved her this woman .
Witikuskítawi’ .
She was beautiful .

Hi ahawáku’ ásku irikuuhásaku’ iraáku cápaat     Ruu
And she said one whatever day it was that woman : ' There
cirú tatuuhattaáhuhta rákis .
yet we are going to go after it wood .

"

Witiícikstaawariihusuuku’ rákis kaciíharaaku’ ruu
They used to gather wood on foot there
iwiraraáhka’iispu ríhkuuhaata rákis .
when they were going into the woods their going after it wood .
Witiirarahúhkaru’ ruurakuciraauu’a rakuracákuska .
They made bundles of them to be enough for one to carry it on her back .

Ráwa ruu’iwirárahka’iisata hirú witaahwáku’ iraáku cápaat
Now when they went into the woods then she would say this one woman
    kaakiíraaki .
: ' Don't be long .
Hi kici wirastattahka’iíspara hi rihúksu táku’
And but when you (pl) go into the timber and only someone
ríkaksa tirataraapaáriki riwiruhaara’íhku’ wískucu’ ruuraakuúraraa

racakukurattacákipiitit hi askuruúrit itaraakaspaátasiiku’ hirú
for us to gather together and together we'll start out there
irirataraakítat .
where our camp is .

"

Ráwa wiraarahka’iisat hi taahwáku’ cápaat
Now they would go into the woods and she would say the woman : '
Ráwa iriirattaaka rihkuhaácikstawi .
Now what I said you be watchful .

"

Iraáriki cuúraki   aáka   iraáriki sikuuhaáruhku
That one young girl , oh , that one she had her
sirihkuriruuhaawiíwari   kíci kiikí ruútari’ kíci rihúksu’
for her to help her , and what is she doing but only
tuuhaáciksta irarahkawaáwari .
she watched out for them those going about in the woods .
Iriwisiriiharahúhkuska   hi caskií’it kuúharu’
When they fixed a bundle for her , and a little she must have made it ,
ruu’ahawáku’     Táku’ rakuukaksa rakuracákipiitit cápaat .
then she said : ' Someone call out for them to gather the women .

"

Hi ahaarahkáwaa’ .
And they all came out of the woods .
Híru ahiíci’a kítuu’u’ .
Then they did it all .
Ahuuhaa’iirit kíra kítuu’ kára’   kítuu’u’ ráhkuuki .
She saw them that all were there , all for them to be .
Híru witaaraspaátasiiku’ .
Then they were starting out .

Ráwa tiiriiraturaa’iíwaati karuuraaraaríhi’ kícku kuhuuhaaruuru’
Now this that I am telling about once several there were times
rahkuúwu tirasaakariki .
their going this (ie one) day .
Witiwícka’ ahukspáttikusuku riisaáru’ i’aharúhku páttiku
He wanted the one who used to announce the chief that one he had a crier
  hi ahiwáku’     Kaasiwáttit   hi ispáku’
, and he said : ' You must announce , and you'll say : `
Tirasaákariki cápaat wituksasá’ cuúraki Ctiwahárittaáku’ .
Today the woman now she is named the girl Plum Bush Woman .
    Iriwituksasá’ Ctiwaharittaáku’ .
' " That was her name Plum Bush Woman .
Wituuricuurakísuri .
She was a beautiful girl .

Kícku ahuúhaaráru’ rihkuúhaata rákis .
Several it numbered the times their going after wood .

Ráwa tiiriítat ráwa wiráhkuwaaka
Now where this camp was now one would say : '
Witataraakitkaáka’ispusta .
We are going to go to the garden .
Witatuuhaákawaahihusta wirataakurattaárahkawaakaruku .
Now we are going to work our planting the garden .

"

Ráwa rii’ahirikstarihkuki raahárisu’ ráku’u ahikskaruukusuku
Now whatever they had hoes to be what they used to make
cahiksícahiks táraha’ kickaáhisu’ iwi’ahara’u raahárisu’

he would do it his making it the land .
Kícku kaakiiwákaahu’ kícku rakutkawiraruu’a   kici
Several one was not saying (ie meaning) several to be acres , but

near to be that way for one to plant (her garden) .
Hi ahikstárihkuki rákiriiku’ tiiriitat hi tiraarahkawaákaru’ .
And the ones they had seeds this camp and they planted them .

Kítuu’u’ wituuhaáciksta hi kici hawa iwiiraahwu táku’
Everything they watched them and but also when they would go some

Ckára karaáhuriwa   kici akitaaruupiiru’ wituksakitaracirahpaápiku’
Alone they were not , but different tribes the tribes were around
cáhiks uúpiiru’ tiwiti’ahacikstikátawaawi .
people different when they fought one another .
Kítuu’u’ ruuwitiruuciíciksta   ráwa títaku íraraa’u
All they used to watch for one another , now here that way
kítuu’u’ tiruuhikatahihaahtaawaahaku hi íruuta rahkuwaáka
all this year going around and that one going he would say :
  Kaawíwattit tiraáku titíwicka’ Ctiwaharittaáku’
' You must announce this one I want this Plum Bush Woman : `
Ruuwitasuksuhuurattaaruucakacuhta .
Now you are to go swimming .
    Títaku ahawaahaku .
' " Here there was an island .
  Kísuc   aáka’a   kira kawiruurúciraa’u’ .
' Grapes , oh , let's see if they are alright .
Ráwa híru raaraaruucákacat .
Now then one can swim .

"

Hiru aharikatihaahtaawaahaku   hi tíhtaru’ kísuc
Then as the seasons went around , and they picked them grapes
wiraahkuwaaraasiki tirarikaa’iispaa’a a
when they were ripe when they were bringing them home and
rahkuraaruuciriíwa .
when they were swimming .
Ahiiruurukskiiraarawaahat huukiwihkahaaru’ rakutarahkisaawari
They used to have various creeks a sand bank for one to run around on
  aaka   cuurakuraáhiira .
, oh , its being so good .
Ráwa kítuu’u’ kísuc a riwáhari’ i’ahukstawaáwikuki
Now all the grapes and plums those that were growing on them
karuuraattíhit kici táhawaawaki rataraapakiíhu
they weren't the only ones but various fruits what we call

these that taste good cherries .
Ráwa kítuu’u’ rahiíra’ iriirakuraá’u rihkuraraspiíta pácuuka’
Now all further another one their going to look for them turnips

All what they used to make they dressed her the princess that one .

Aáka   witariihaati’ iraáku Riitáhkac Rariisaaru riisaahkawí’u’ .
Oh , he liked it that one Eagle Chief the head chief .
Tíraaku piíta aharuuraapírihuu’ cápaat .
This one man he loved her the woman .
Kítuu’u’ siwitiítaciksta   haákawahcisu’ sirihkuuharahuuka
Everyone they watched her , food their bringing it into her
rahiíra’ rahkuhuúraa’u   a rahiíra’ rahkukára’u tápaharus
sometimes one making mush , or sometimes one making it pemmican

rihkurarahuuka kítuks   hi ahikspaawaákuuki .
when he would bring them in beavers , and what they used to eat .

Ráwa i’ahicikskaaruruuki ákitaaru’ ti’ahiitat   iíka   cahiksícahiks
Now that which they ate the tribe this village , oh , Indians
táku’ kararakuuwari cahíkstaaka kici cahiksícahiks a
there was none around whitemen but Indians and
iriikitaariki kici iraakítaahku .

Ráwa ruutiwiruútasitiku wirakuhuraarawicpu   hi ahawáku’
Now as it was happening when it reached that time , and she said
íraaku cápaat     Wiruutiiraawi’u’ rákis ratihkurattaruuwahu .
that woman : ' It is now the time wood for us to gather .
  Raawiitakaaraahisu’ kukuusucikaahuraarasítit   kici

Aáka   ruu’iriwiraarahká’iispu
Oh , then when they were going into the woods

That one Eagle Chief he said : ' Plum Bush Woman ,

(2) Tihiiwiriikuuwakuuha’iwu Ctiwaharittaáku’

uu   Ctiwaharittaáku’ .
oh , Plum Bush Woman .

Tiráturaa’iiwaati kskiíti’iks rátihkuuwikaaruuwe aku ruúrahiira’ .
This story I am telling four (times) it is for me to sing through and further .
Kici tiiríruuta iriraruuraákitawi caskií’it kuriitúci’aari’ suúhuri’ .
But the way it is on account of it a little I am doing it near .

Hi ahawáku’ Riitáhkuc Ráriisaaru     Aáka’a   iriiratuúhaarihku’
And he said Eagle Chief : ' Oh , that is what I mean
ctiisaáru’ kíra kúsaahu’ iítu’ ihirawíhat .
the princess to see if it will come being there that other group .

"

Witiwáku’     Irastápihat kiíki rastápakista
He said : ' Your (group) what are you (pl) going to say
siriítacikstawi iraáku riísaaru’ =.
they who are taking care of him that one chief ? "

Witiwáku’     Tiriihapaki’aahu’     Kíra kúsaahu’ tiraraárawari
He said : ' We are saying : ` Let them come these who fly
rihwakiíhu pákskicis ríkucki .
what they call baldheaded birds (ie buzzards) .

' "

Hiru iririíhi’u siriítiirit riisarahúrahki kúrakuuru
Then where they were they saw him the chief deer to be something
caskí’it wirakuraahúrari   hi tirawaáriki ríkucki
a little when it was getting spoiled , and these birds
iriwirutpakaarawítaakahaaku’ .
they were flying around it .
Iriwiruutuhuhtaakáhaaku’ ruuraárihi’ aku kícku ruuháruuwa
It was flying in a circle just a single one or it may be more than one
cúsawi’ .
buzzards .
Ráwa ahaáhu’ .
Now he was coming .

  Tiwiraá’ .
' Here he comes .
Ráwa   iíka’a   wískucu’ =.
Now , oh , hurry ! "

A ahaáhuuka’ .
And he came inside .

Iraáku Custittawárit     Úh   háwa tiirikíwi .
That one Old Woman Rat : ' Oh , also it is a different one (group) .
Ráwa kici kiíki riítarista tirawaáriki =.
Now but what are they going to do these ? "

Siihitkiritta’iwaáwari’ .
They examined her all over .
Hi ahíhwaki’ irawíhat     Ráwa   iíka’a   tiiwiiriíraaku
And they said those : ' Now , oh , this way (ie problem)
iriwituuhaahúhtawi’ .
it is a difficult matter .

Híru iraráhwari ahukspícahu ícaas .
Then those going around they were arriving tarapins .
Hiru iritiráhwari kuuhaáhkat irii’ahahawastátku   kítuu’u’
Then those lived there in the valley where there is tall grass , all
rapákararuusu’   hi tirawaáriki ícaas ruu’iririirahkirikispaáwari’ .
the brush , and these tarapins they crawl around in that .

Ráwa tihiwirúksahu kaáka’ hiru riiraaráwari’ .
Now these others who had come crows there they were flying .
Kiíkaru’us kítuu’u’ irihisitiihaa’iiríkspari’ kaáka’ .
Early in the morning all those were flying around watching crows .
Wirakuratkií’aari   hi awít irihitirahká’iisat
When it was becoming night , and first (ones) those went into the woods
tirahuraárawaahat kaátuhaaru’ .
this land passing all around timber .
Hiru iriitiráhwari’ .
There that is where they went .

  Ráwa títaku tiratiraákahu’ .
' Now here here we come .
Kusikariiriituraaracíhtis kíriku’ hiru irahattaaráwari .
We did not notice anything anything there while we were flying around .

"

Ráwa hiru ihítaku táku’ iriirakiícuhat táku’
Now then over there someone where the creek was someone
aá’ .
he came (unnoticed) .
riruu’ahíci’a   aháwu’ .
And thereupon they did it : they were going .

Hirú ahiwáku’     Kuwikaakatuúhaaka .
Then it said : ' We did (ie could) not do anything .

"

Híru ahiwáku’ Riitáhkac Ráriisaaru     Iriwitúraahi .
Then he said Eagle Chief : ' That is good .

"

Rihúksu’ witaahcákuriisat hiru cáhiks taárat tíkskurit
Just the sun had set then a person he would go close by
irihiiriíhi’u’ hiri’ahawákaahu’ .
where that place was where the voice was coming from .
Ahaarahwícaahu’ iraruhwíhat riisaáru’ .
They were coming back those of his the chief .
Híru kuhiicikstaa’iirískpari’ .
Then they were going around watching .
Ahuúki ríwit ruutiráhkawa huraáriri’ .
Those skunks they live inside there in the ground .

  Kíra kusaáhu’ .
' See if they will come .
Tiihakáhuriwa .
They must be around .

"

Hiru hítaku ruuririiráhka’iispu ríwit .
There over there that's where they were going into the woods there the skunks .
A kítuu’u’ irahaapaáwi hi kítuu’u’ iririirahkáwa
And all those trees and all they live there in the woods
ríwit .
the skunks .
Hawá ahaáhu’ .
Also they were coming .

Cústit rihúksu’ wituúhaa’iirit iwiri’aharaaruúkahu .
The old woman only she saw them when they were coming inside .
  Aáka   híkiiri tiwiraáhu’ .
' Oh , indeed here they come .
Kítuu’u’ raárit iriwiturahkararihúriwa ríwit iruúki .
All really they are striped nicely skunks those .
Irii’iruúta kúrakuuru rakutaraawiisu iraáku ríwit
It seems to be thus to be like that to be striped that one skunk
ira’uspaáwi kítuu’u’ ríwit karári’ .
that one's hair all (over) skunk colorful .
Aáka   iriwitiírawaki’ .
Oh , those are strange .
Ráwa kaasúciraaka iriikuhasuuhaákarista .
Now you must do what you are going to do .

"

Hi kici íraaku Riitáhkac Ráriisaaru   iíka   wi’ahátarahkisiciísat .
And but that one Eagle Chief , oh , he was tired out .
Kici wi’ahaarahkáwaahu’
But they were coming out of the timber
i’ahaaraatakipiiruútiku rakúsakuuru .
as they were gathering together in a group one day .
Iritiiruutári’ .
They were doing that .
Íraaku cústit iriwití’ Ctiwaharittaáku’ .
That one old woman she was that Plum Bush Woman .
Hi ahihwaki’aáhu’ i’ahawaáriki cápaat     Raaríksisu’
And they were saying those women : ' Really
tiíkiwi   hi raárit rikúti’ .
she is different , and truly it is she .

"

Cirú a ruutíruu’at iriirakuraá’u .
Yet and then the way went the way it was .
  Híru wiraaruutuciísat raaruurakukuháttuuwihku .
' Then she is just doing it her just saying things to us .
Iriirakuraá’u uúrariisit wikaakuutuhúru’ .
As it is straight her way is not .
  Iriwiruútasitit .
" Now that is what happened .

Ráwa ruu hítaku wirihkukstahkaáwahu wiraahkusákuriisata a
Now there over there when they were dancing when it was sundown and
wirakuratkií’ari hi ahuutári’ ruu’iraáhku iraaraáruku
when it got night and she was doing it that one there that one singing :
witikíkat hi aharaáruuku’ táwi’u’ tiruúki   hi ahawákaahu’
she cried and she was singing songs these , and she was singing
Ctiwaharittaáku’   raárit irii’ahá’u Ctiwaharittaáku’ .
Plum Bush Woman , real the one Plum Bush Woman .

Iriikuruuhíraawi’u’ ihiítakaksa’ kítuks .
It was about the time he called them the beavers .
Hi ri’ahaáhu’ kítuks .
And they were coming the beavers .

Aáka   wiwitiwákaahu’ cústit     Aáka

  Irikuúhu’ ahararaáwari .
" It was the one the ones who live in the water .
  Ráwa   aáka’a   isuúhaaka iriikuuhasuukaáharista .
' Now , oh , you'll do whatever you are going to do .
  Irii’ahaá hiru sihicikirittá’iwa .
" The ones who came then they examined her .
Kítuu’u’ irawaáriki kítuks iriwirikutí’it kítuu’u’
All those beavers they were the ones all

those who eat all kinds roots , everything .
Iríhku’a   hi taaraáruttit káhcu’
When they came , and they had put it in their mouths medicine ,
riirarahkahaawiriwaárakuuki kápahcu’   aáka’a   cústit
the ones which smell nicely herbs , oh , the old woman
sirihkutkicpiirácaraawaawuhu .
for them to spray her all over .

Aáka   witariíhaati’ cústit .
Oh , she liked it the old woman .
Aáka   iriwitihwaáruksti’ .
Oh , they were powerful .
  Riitáhkac Ráriisaaru   aáka   witatúhkahaarawiri =.
' Eagle Chief , oh , now I smell nicely ! "

Tihwáku’     Ráwa   iíka’a   Riitáhkac Ráriisaaru
They said : ' Now , oh my , Eagle Chief ,
kukariisuciíciksu’ =. Ráwa kukaáki’ kuratkuuhaákaara .
don't think anything ! Now there is not anything that we can do .
